Event coverage: the 35th Sports Day of Formosa Plastics Group was grandly held at 8:00 a.m. on November 10th in the track-and-field ground of MCUT. With the gentle breeze on the field, participants felt cool and refreshing. The opening ceremony was hosted by President Wang, Wen-Yuan. Competitors of the company from home and abroad, employees, family members of employees and spectators attended the grand event together. Early in the morning, the team members, cheering squad, retiree representative of each company and spectators gathered in and around the track-and-field ground, bringing extremely joyful air and high spirits. The president soon welcomed the domestic and foreign distinguished guests amid the cheers of the entire audience; accompanied by the president, the former President Ma, Ying-Jeou entered the venue. At eight o’clock, the ceremony group officially declared the start of the opening ceremony of the sports day, with majestic and lofty march ringing through the field. Then, the opening ceremony officially began with the entry of athletes, the highlight of every year. A total of 16 teams and more than 5,000 participants took part in the opening ceremony, including Main Management Department, Formosa Plastics Group, Nan Ya Plastics, Formosa Chemicals&Fiber Corporation, Formosa Petrochemical, FHS, oversea united team, Southern Taiwan Science Park, MCUT, school fellows of MCUT, Chang Gung Medical Foundation, FU-MAO, Retirees’ Association, First Commercial Bank, Chunghwa Post and GOTION HIGH-TECH. The best and highly motivated players attended the competition, and we believed that we would have a wonderful event and create even more brilliant results.
After the players were in place, the sports day flag entered the arena, with eight students from MCUT holding it high and accessing to the field from the left of the commander stage. They held the torch high and lit the fire of victory on the sacred fire stand, representing the development and expansion of Formosa Plastics Group from generation to generation and passing down of the battle-hardened spirit. The flag rose slowly along with the MCUT school anthem, marking the beginning of the sports day. The chairman and guest’s speech was followed by the oath of athletes by Liu, Yan-Chen, a student from MCUT, and then by the release of colorful balloons and doves all over the sky amid the music.
After the opening ceremony, Contentment Taiko Drum Troupe of Elder’s Association, Mailiao Township, Yunlin County presented the first show themed at earsplitting drums for fortune . They were full of energy and enthusiasm. Then came the Sports Day Dance of Formosa Plastics Group, with the theme of “Care for Taiwan, Spread Love All over the Country”. Professional cheerleading clubs and dance groups were specially invited to perform the dance, showing the spirits of Formosa Plastics’ long-term caring for social groups, giving back to the society with practical actions as well as guarding Taiwan in hopes that all walks of life could have a further understanding of us. Wang, Yung-Ching, Wang, Yung-Tsai, the founder of Formosa Plastics Group, not only ran very good business but have been devoted to public benefit activities. The president and his second-generation children have also carried on his spirit of “taking from the society and giving back to the society” to help those in need in the community by keeping promoting public benefit projects based on the social needs in a comprehensive, integral and systematic manner, showing our infinite care for the homeland and people.
Over the years, the president has long been committed to warming others, thereby promoting the harmony and advancement of the whole society. Therefore, he was awarded with 11th Compassion Award of HK & Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund Limited, Meritorious Persons Involved in the Cause of Prison Indoctrination and Protection by Ministry of Justice and Sports Activists Award by the Ministry of Education.

“Education (Employment) Assistance Scheme for Indigenous Youth”,
“Food Delivery for Elderly Living Alone and Formosa Plastics Nutritious Breakfast Subsidy Program”,,
“Development of Outstanding Sports Talents”,
“Plan for Developing Taiwan Characteristic Cultures”.
In the end, all the dancers held up signals and shouted in unison: “Formosa Plastics’ well-known throughout Taiwan, No. 1 in business turnover in the country, caring for Taiwan & spreading love. The Sports Day of Formosa Plastics Group came to a successful conclusion!”
The first event was a 5000-meter jog by executives of Formosa Plastics Group and distinguished guests, which began at 9 o’clock in the track field. The president took the field himself after firing a gun. The vice president, executive vice president, executives and domestic and foreign distinguished guests participated in the whole run passionately amid the cheers of the audience and cheerleaders.
From 9:40 a.m., various sports competitions, art exhibitions, garden fairs, etc. were carried out at different locations of MCUT. Please refer to “Schedule and Status” and “Activities on the Day” for time and place of each activity.
